Yeditepe University Prepares to Launch Its Patented Products on Global Markets

A press conference hosted by Yeditepe University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman was held at the Sakarya Ramada By Wyndham Hotel. During the meeting, Rector Durman provided information on the university’s activities in education and medicine, its national and international achievements, and its future goals. Emphasizing that Yeditepe University has undertaken significant projects particularly in the fields of health sciences, technology, and academic quality, Durman stated that the university holds a strong position on a global scale.

Rector Durman also noted that more than 300 students from Sakarya are studying at universities in Istanbul, adding that Yeditepe University attracts strong interest from students from Sakarya.

Durman stated that Yeditepe University has gone beyond being merely an educational institution and has built a vast technology ecosystem centered on R&D, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He emphasized that with its advanced laboratory infrastructure and prototyping facilities, the university enables young talents to transform their ideas into tangible projects, and through these achievements, it has made a visionary contribution to Türkiye’s technology exports.

Europe’s Patent Leader

Rector Durman stated that Yeditepe University, which operates with a strategy of transforming research into products, has achieved a historic success by rising to first place in the European patent registration rankings. He shared the following information:“With a total of 185 registered patents, the university produces high value-added solutions across many fields, from the defense industry to materials science. Projects such as the ‘Mine Detection Robot’ and ‘Polymer-Based Special Coating Technology,’ showcased at TEKNOFEST, are preparing to be introduced to global markets at major technology fairs in the United States and the United Kingdom. In addition, Yeditepe University’s technology vision has been certified by the world’s highest aviation authority. The ‘Artificial Intelligence–Supported Air Traffic Controller Guidance System,’ developed by university students, was selected as the world’s best among 193 countries at a global innovation competition organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), affiliated with the United Nations.”

Europe’s First and Only CODA Accreditation

Rector Durman also stated that Yeditepe University’s Faculty of Dentistry has been accredited by CODA (Commission on Dental Accreditation), operating under the American Dental Association (ADA). He said:“With this prestigious accreditation, Yeditepe University has achieved a historic success by becoming the first accredited faculty of dentistry in Europe and the second in the world outside the United States. As Yeditepe University, we continue to build a strong entrepreneurship ecosystem that serves as a model in higher education to ensure the sustainable growth of technological innovations. The VentureStudio model implemented within the university brings together research, entrepreneurship, and investment stakeholders under a single structure, creating a next-generation incubation and commercialization environment.”

Other Highlights from the Press Conference

Reinforcing its strong position in the international higher education arena, Yeditepe University will become the first Turkish university to host the 2026 General Assembly and Annual Conference of the European University Association (EUA).This historic meeting, to be held in Istanbul on April 16–17, 2026, hosted by Yeditepe University and marking the 29th edition, represents a strategic turning point not only for Türkiye but also for the European and global higher education systems.

Represented by a large team of 50 students at Türkiye’s largest technology festival, Yeditepe University demonstrated its engineering strength through the awards it received. University teams won the “Best System Design Award” in the Combat UAV category and the “Best Design Award” with their Hyperloop High-Speed Train project.

Aziz Sancar Science Award

One of the university’s distinguished academics, Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Şahin, was deemed worthy of the Aziz Sancar Science Award—one of Türkiye’s most prestigious scientific honors—for his groundbreaking research in biotechnology and genetics.

TÜSEB Special Award

Prof. Dr. Uğur Türe, one of the globally recognized figures in the medical world, received the TÜSEB (Presidency of Turkish Health Institutes) Special Award for his pioneering work in brain surgery and neurosurgery, once again demonstrating the university’s authority in medical sciences.

A First in Turkish Sports History

Yeditepe University stands at the top of the world not only in science and technology but also in sports. Yeditepe University student and national swimmer Defne Kurt, who competed in the World Para Swimming Championships held in Singapore, etched her name into Turkish sports history by winning five gold medals.
