SATSO President Altuğ Presented an 11-Item List of Requests and Proposals to Minister Bayraktar

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar attended a consultation meeting held at the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SATSO).SATSO President A. Akgün Altuğ presented an 11-item list of proposals and demands prepared by the Chamber to Minister Bayraktar during the meeting.

The meeting was hosted by SATSO Chairman A. Akgün Altuğ and Assembly President Erdem Ercan. Among the attendees were Sakarya Governor Rahmi Doğan, AK Party Deputy Chairman Ali İhsan Yavuz, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar, AK Party Sakarya MPs Lütfi Bayraktar and Ertuğrul Kocacık, AK Party Provincial Chairman Yunus Tever, Sakarya University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamza Al, presidents of chambers and commodity exchanges, heads of vocational-based NGOs, and many SATSO member businesspeople.

One of the Most Important Production Centers of Marmara and the Country
In the opening speech of the meeting, SATSO Chairman A. Akgün Altuğ emphasized that the Chamber, established in 1917, is a significant institution serving the city and country with the support of over 20,000 members.
“We continue our work with a genetic structure that gives strength to Sakarya,” said Altuğ and added:
“Our city is one of the most important production centers of Marmara and Turkey. Our exports from production amount to nearly 10 billion dollars annually. At the same time, Sakarya has a deep-rooted commercial culture. It is also a tourism city with significant potential. We are strategically located at a junction that connects major roads and productive metropolitan cities.”

We Have a Significant Energy Import Burden
Following Altuğ’s opening remarks, SATSO members had the opportunity to speak and share their requests, suggestions, and expectations.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar took notes on all questions and responded with the following key points:
“We are working on all our projects to eliminate foreign dependency in energy. We have a significant energy import burden. Fuel must be provided for 32 million vehicles and heating for 42 million households. We need to supply 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Energy demand in our country is continuously increasing and will continue to do so.We rank 4th in the world in geothermal energy. After 2016, we entered a new era in oil and natural gas exploration with the Sakarya gas field. In 2020, we made the largest discovery in the history of the Republic. We also produce oil worth $2 billion annually. Additionally, Turkey ranks 7th globally in mineral diversity. We are trying to build a balanced energy production portfolio.”
