The TOBB Sakarya Provincial Women's Entrepreneurs Board, operating under the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SATSO), held this year’s edition of the traditional "Inspiring Women of Sakarya" event. The event delivered powerful messages on women's participation in the workforce and gender equality.
This event in Sakarya became an important step in raising awareness about women entrepreneurship, equal opportunities, and social development. The inspiring success stories of the participants motivated young women.
The event was moderated by speaker Merve Toy, and during the panel, where Sakarya Deputy Governor Selda Dural was a special guest, women who have succeeded in their respective fields shared their experiences and advice with the participants.
Inspiring Stories
The event began with an opening speech by SATSO Assembly President Erdem Ercan. Ercan emphasized the importance of including women in economic development and social change processes, stating, "The greater participation of women in the workforce and production is not only the foundation of social justice but also economic sustainability. Excluding women from the workforce hinders the development of societies."
Sakarya Deputy Governor Selda Dural conveyed important messages regarding gender equality and equal opportunities. Dural noted that women previously had less presence in male-dominated professions but, over time, constitutional rights and changing social norms have opened doors for women. She also emphasized the importance of being a role model and a source of inspiration for young girls.
One of the key speeches at the panel came from İpek Üstündağ, Chairperson of Şenpiliç's Board of Directors. Üstündağ highlighted that there are still significant challenges regarding women's participation in the workforce and made this important observation: "We need to change the societal mindset to ensure that women have a greater presence in the business world. However, this requires not just participation, but also the creation of equal opportunities." Üstündağ pointed out that it is difficult for women to enter management positions in the business world, but with a changing mentality, these barriers can be overcome.
Women Are Stronger Together
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gamze Güney Eskiler, a faculty member of the Department of Medical Biology at Sakarya University’s Faculty of Medicine, stated that women are persistent in achieving success and that they can be much stronger when they act together. She said, "Supporting each other is a significant step on the path to success. As women, we should come together and encourage one another."
