Accessible Transportation Project
With the launch of the project—introduced by Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar together with AK Party Deputy Chair Dr. Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya—a new phase has begun in public transportation in Sakarya. Through this initiative, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality has set an example for municipalities across Türkiye.
The “Accessible Transportation Support System for Individuals with Disabilities,” which was recently implemented digitally, removes the obstacles that disabled individuals face when using public transport. The project was awarded the “Accessible Transportation Project” prize by the AK Party Presidency of Social Policies, and the award was presented to Mayor Yusuf Alemdar by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Speaking at the launch event, Mayor Alemdar emphasized that they continue to develop projects to create a barrier-free city and stated that, as in all areas, they have implemented this system to make life easier in transportation as well.

AK Party Deputy Chair Dr. Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya noted that the project in Sakarya was recognized and awarded by President Erdoğan, adding that they will always continue to support individuals with disabilities.

İbrahim Bingöl, a user of the application, said:
“This application provides us with multiple benefits. Thanks to it, everyone knows how to act appropriately. Both the driver and we as passengers can behave much more accurately. At the same time, it gives us personal confidence.”
Project Details
Burak Karslı, Head of the Transportation Department of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, shared the following details about the project:
Individuals with disabilities and their companions who download the SAKUS application can benefit from the service.
The application provides voice guidance, route notifications, and stop information.
It instantly notifies the driver when a disabled passenger is waiting at a stop.
The driver’s screen displays information about which stop the passenger will get off.
This allows the passenger to plan the entire journey from departure to destination.
With this project, individuals with hearing, visual, and physical disabilities can plan their journeys with minimal assistance, benefiting from real-time information for a controlled, safe, and uninterrupted travel experience.
The application also offers companions the ability to create personalized routes and track real-time location.
