Şevket Çalışkan Becomes New President of SASİAD
Şevket Çalışkan, General Manager of Kromel A.Ş., has been elected the new president of the Sakarya Industrialists and Businesspeople Association (SASİAD). At the association’s 17th Ordinary General Assembly, held at Şaheser Wedding and Conference Palace with members in attendance, Ali Tamer Birlik, who had served as president during the previous term, handed over the position to Çalışkan.
With its 35-year history and significant role in the development of Sakarya’s industry, SASİAD has begun a new term focused on collective wisdom, cooperation and sustainable projects.
At the meeting, Hakan Alkan, a former SASİAD president who served during the association’s eighth term, chaired the General Assembly. Günay Güneş and Bülent Esmer served as vice chairs. In addition to association members, former SASİAD presidents İsmet Çalışkan, Ahmet Çubuk, Ahmet Öztürk Hacıeyüpoğlu, Onur Döver, Ümit Karayaka and Ali Tamer Birlik attended the assembly.
During the meeting, SASİAD Secretary General Ferhat Ateş presented the association’s activity report and financial statements for the 2022–2024 period, along with the activities planned for the new term.
Sakarya’s First Businesspeople Association
Founded on July 24, 1991, as Sakarya’s first businesspeople association, SASİAD has undertaken significant initiatives to support the development of Sakarya’s industry and business community throughout its 35-year history.
In his address to the General Assembly, outgoing president Ali Tamer Birlik stated that he and the board of directors had carried out important initiatives together with association members during his term. He said:
“Since its establishment, SASİAD has organized numerous meetings, events, domestic and international business trips, seminars and trade fairs to contribute to the development of our members, our city and our country. It has also helped bring many projects to life through cooperation with our umbrella organization, the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, economy-focused non-governmental organizations, universities and local administrations.
“This is a relay race in which the flag is passed on. I believe that, together with SASİAD’s newly elected president and board of directors, the association will serve Sakarya even better with renewed energy.”
Exports to More Than 100 Countries
In his address, newly elected president Şevket Çalışkan thanked members for the confidence they had placed in him and emphasized that the association would work through collective wisdom and cooperation in the new term.
Çalışkan said their goal was to bring stakeholders together around projects that would advance both SASİAD and Sakarya, taking the association’s achievements to an even higher level.
Highlighting SASİAD’s role in representing Sakarya’s economy, President Şevket Çalışkan noted that the association represents significant economic value through its 142 qualified members. He stated that member companies collectively employ 8,200 people and export to more than 100 countries.
New Board of Directors
The new board of directors, elected under the presidency of Şevket Çalışkan, consists of the following members: Tunç Özüuğurlu, Nihat Güngör, Ufuk Demircioğlu, Abdullah Kara, Ümit Karayaka, Zafer Şükür, Recai Sandıkçı, Nizamettin Sarı, Suat Kayaalp, Ceyhun Eser, Haluk Erol, Timuçin Mert Çelikkoparan, Ali Atalar and Mesut Cebeci.
