A second Technopark is being established in Sakarya
The second Technopark in Sakarya is planned to be operational by the second half of 2026. Nehir Technopark, which will be launched under the leadership of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences (SUBÜ) and with the participation of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arifiye Municipality, Eastern Marmara Machinery Manufacturers Specialized Organized Industrial Zone, Sakarya Commodity Exchange, and the 1st and 2nd Organized Industrial Zones of Sakarya, will also include production and prototype workshops.
Providing information about the Technopark project, Nehir Technopark General Manager Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış Boru stated that the construction of Nehir Technopark, which will be located in the area of the former Toyota Dental Hospital — now designated as the SUBÜ Technology Development Zone by a decision published in the Official Gazette — is aimed to be completed by May or June 2026.
110 Companies
Barış Boru noted that construction work has already begun in the area of the former Sakarya Dental Hospital, following the allocation of a 50 million TL budget in 2025 for Nehir Technopark, which was officially established in 2022 with a decree published in the Official Gazette.
He explained that Nehir Technopark will be built on a 7,000 square meter area, sharing the following details: “The demolition of the existing buildings on the land — 57% of which is owned by Sakarya University of Applied Sciences — has already started. Our goal is to open Nehir Technopark in May or June 2026. It will be a three-story building with a total indoor space of 7,300 square meters. The ground floor will be designed as a workshop space primarily for production and prototyping activities. The structure will differ slightly from other technoparks in Turkey. A covered central area in the building will serve as a foyer and exhibition space. There will be 94 offices, the smallest of which will be 25 square meters, and 14 workshops dedicated to production. We aim to serve 110 companies.”
Priority Sectors
Barış Boru also highlighted what makes Nehir Technopark stand out from other technoparks: “We are in a prime location — very close to the 1st Organized Industrial Zone and the Toyota factory, with easy access to other industrial zones and the highway. Our position is right along Turkey's main transportation corridor. Unlike many technoparks, we are located outside the university campus and inside the industrial zone itself.
We have identified the following priority sectors based on the regional industrial focus: Autonomous and alternative energy vehicles, Artificial intelligence for industrial applications, Mechatronics / machinery manufacturing, Agricultural technologies, Health technologies, Defense industry, and Renewable energy. A project has been developed for Nehir Technopark that includes production and prototype workshops suitable for these priority sectors. We have already received many preliminary applications for Nehir Technopark, and we anticipate that all areas will be fully utilized by R&D institutions shortly after operations begin.”
