Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality disposed of 415 tons of medical waste in 3 months. Continuing its waste collection efforts within the scope of its environmental policy, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality collects an average of 130 tons of medical waste monthly from healthcare facilities across 16 districts. The waste is transported by licensed vehicles to the Medical Waste Sterilization facility and safely disposed of.
The waste collected daily from healthcare institutions in the 16 districts is disposed of using steam sterilization, shredding, and chemical-biological indicators. After sterilization, the waste is shredded to reduce its volume and classified as domestic waste, then disposed of in a regulated landfill site. The reliability of all these processes is regularly tested with chemical and biological indicators.
With this meticulous work, tons of chemical and biological waste are prevented from harming nature, air, and living spaces every month. This creates the most suitable conditions for a cleaner, more livable, and healthier city in line with the ‘Zero Waste’ policy.
