Efforts have begun to solve the water supply problems in the coastal districts of Karasu and Kocaali, two of Sakarya’s key tourism destinations. A total of 27 alternative water sources will be brought into operation to provide a permanent solution to the water shortages experienced in these Black Sea districts, especially during the summer months when the population increases significantly.

Making a statement on the issue, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar said that a comprehensive solution would be implemented through 27 alternative drinking water sources, a 3,000-meter steel pipeline, electromechanical installations, and the renovation of the Şerbetpınarı Water Treatment Plant.

Drought and Excessive Consumption

Mayor Alemdar stated that fieldwork will begin following the completion of the tender process scheduled for Friday, April 10, and provided the following details:

“Within the scope of the project, a 3,000-meter steel pipeline will be constructed to transport water obtained from underground sources, and necessary renovation works will be carried out at the Şerbetpınarı Water Treatment Plant to ensure sustainability. We continue to take precautions to prevent the problems experienced last year due to drought and excessive consumption. We will introduce 27 new drinking water sources for Karasu and Kocaali, which face water shortages particularly during the summer due to the use of drinking water in agricultural activities and the population increasing nearly tenfold with tourism activity. In this context, we will complete the electromechanical processes of 20 sources and put them into operation, while fieldwork for 7 new sources will begin immediately after the tender process is finalized.”
