Climate Change and the Circular Economy

The trainings covered topics such as “Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Efforts” and “The Role of Special Waste in the Circular Economy.” During the sessions, the environmental, economic, and social impacts of climate change were explained in detail, while special emphasis was placed on the critical importance of the zero waste approach for sustainable environmental goals.

It was particularly emphasized that young people should play an important role as awareness-raising and guiding individuals within their communities. Through examples, students were informed about the increasing pressure of rising waste volumes and carbon emissions resulting from growing consumption, the importance of climate literacy, and the economic and social benefits of protecting natural resources.

Students were also informed that separately collected vegetable waste oil, electronic waste, and waste batteries are collected from addresses upon request.

Speaking during the trainings, Environmental Senior Engineer Dr. Yasemin Çalışkan emphasized the importance of the zero waste approach for sustainability, stating: “Properly managed waste not only reduces environmental burden but also becomes an important resource with economic value. Today’s youth, as the decision-makers of tomorrow, will take on key roles in implementing environmentally responsible practices.”
