Chairman Genç noted that the drought and water restrictions experienced in 2025 severely affected producers and agricultural production.

Stating that, as the Sakarya Commodity Exchange, they have voiced the region’s needs on every platform throughout this process, Chairman Genç said:

“We are extremely pleased that the Akgöl Irrigation Project has been taken under consideration by our Ministry and will be implemented. Irrigation investments are agriculture’s strongest insurance against the risks of climate change and drought. This investment will not only compensate for today’s production losses, but will also make a significant contribution to the sustainability of regional agriculture and increased productivity. With the completion of the Akgöl Irrigation Project, Sakarya’s agriculture will gain a more resilient and well-planned structure. On behalf of Sakarya’s agriculture sector and producers, I would like to thank, first and foremost, our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry for including the implementation of the Akgöl Irrigation Project in their agenda, as well as our Sakarya Members of Parliament, our Mayor of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, and our Director General of State Hydraulic Works.”
