The Sapanca Lake Action Plan includes six main actions and 12 measures. Under these measures, approximately TL 25.5 billion will be invested over the next five years.

Speaking at the Sapanca Lake Action Plan Promotional Meeting held at the Adapazarı Cultural Center, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said that action plans had been prepared for Lakes Eğirdir, Beyşehir, Akşehir, Eber, Bafa, Burdur, İznik, Seyfe and Sapanca.

Stating that implementation of the Sapanca Lake Action Plan had already begun in part, Yumaklı provided the following information:

“Lake Sapanca is extremely important both as a source of drinking water and for other water uses. It is also designated as a protected site. In the coming period, temperatures in this region and across the basin are projected to rise by 4 degrees. Total annual precipitation is expected to decrease by 5 percent.

When water consumption is combined with the effects of climate change, Lake Sapanca experienced a decline of approximately 72 million cubic meters of water in 2025. Some 22 percent of this loss was due to evaporation.

The action plan was therefore prepared on the basis of the lake’s climate data, ecological and hydrological characteristics, as well as patterns of water use.

We have drawn up an investment plan for these measures. Over the next five years, approximately TL 25.5 billion will be invested specifically to implement the measures included in this action plan. We aim to bring approximately 114 million cubic meters of additional water into our basin annually.”
