Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar announced the data revealed over a 10-month period regarding the use of DOA (Deposit-Return Packaging) machines. Mayor Alemdar stated that in Sakarya, the first pilot province for DOA machines, more than 5 million packages were recovered and brought back into the economy within 10 months, thereby preventing environmental damage. He noted that a total of TRY 1.25 million was paid by the ministry during this period and that, as of today, the system has over 71,000 registered users. Emphasizing that an average of 30,000 people actively use the system daily, Mayor Alemdar said that Sakarya will continue to lead Türkiye in environmental management.

Mayor Alemdar explained that 64 percent of the waste consists of PET, 31 percent of glass, and 5 percent of aluminum. He also stated that the Deposit Management System (DYS), which began in February 2025 in Adapazarı, Serdivan, and Erenler, has now expanded to all 16 districts of the city, with the number of machines increasing to 48.
Within the Deposit Management System (DYS) launched by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change through the Turkish Environmental Agency, the first DOA Deposit Return Machines were installed in Sakarya, which was selected as the pilot province.
