Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar announced that work has begun on a new infrastructure investment aimed at protecting Sapanca Lake and minimizing water loss and leakage rates.

Stating that 65% of Sakarya’s drinking water needs are supplied from Lake Sapanca, Alemdar emphasized that with the implementation of new projects and the renewal of existing lines, water losses will be reduced to minimum levels. He also noted that the lake will be protected against wastewater contamination and uninterrupted transmission will be ensured through a new drinking water reservoir.

High-Speed Train Project Integration
Mayor Alemdar provided the following details:
“The tender process has begun for the investment, which has been prepared in line with international standards and will be implemented with financing from the World Bank. The project, which includes a 45-kilometer drinking water line and a 9-kilometer collector line, will mark a turning point in the district’s infrastructure. We are launching two major infrastructure projects with a total cost of 1 billion Turkish lira. Through the collector line, which will prevent polluted water from mixing with the lake and ensure its safe transfer to treatment facilities, the waters of Sapanca Lake will be protected. Infrastructure lines within the High-Speed Train project area have also been revised. Within this scope, the infrastructure of 13 neighborhoods will be completely renewed, including a 3-kilometer drinking water line, an 8-kilometer wastewater line, and a 100-cubic-meter reservoir. In order to ensure the complete and balanced operation of the infrastructure network to be established in Sapanca, 52 engineering structures and 5 package pumping stations will be integrated. This will ensure the safe discharge and uninterrupted transmission of water.”
