A technology developed at Sakarya University, protected with three patents, extends the lifespan of batteries and secures investments in energy storage. As a result of the work of Sakarya University scientists, three different circuits were developed and registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

The inventions titled “Active Battery Management System Powered by a Modified T-Type Bidirectional Converter,” developed by Prof. Dr. Uğur Arifoğlu, faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and PhD student Ümit Pekparlak, were published in the Official Patent Bulletin.

The three national patents obtained focus on extending the life of batteries in energy storage systems.

Thanks to the electronic system developed by Sakarya University scientists, each battery operates under the healthiest conditions recommended by the manufacturer. In this way, the service life of batteries is maximized, preventing investors from losing billions of liras. This technology will make a significant difference especially in gigawatt-level large-scale energy storage facilities. Since thousands of batteries are used in such facilities, shortened lifespans result in enormous costs.

The innovation introduced by SAU scientists will ensure that energy investments in Türkiye and around the world are safer, more efficient, and more sustainable.
