Akgün Altuğ, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SATSO), stated that investments in Sakarya should be planned with a railway infrastructure integrated with industry. Emphasizing that planned industrialization steps in Sakarya have intensified particularly in the northern part of the province in recent years, Altuğ said that integrating Karasu Port with the railway network would bring significant economic vitality to both the port and the region.
Altuğ noted that the Karasu Railway Project, which had remained idle for many years but has recently been re-tendered and restarted, is of great importance for Sakarya. He added that the railway project, which will connect the Black Sea coastal line including Akçakoca, Ereğli, and Bartın with Central Anatolia, will make significant contributions to economic and social development in the regions along its route.

Port, Logistics OIZ, Railway and Free Zone
Stating that economically oriented transportation and logistics opportunities are decisive factors in the development of cities, Akgün Altuğ said:
“In recent years, we have been planning our industrial investments, particularly new organized industrial zones, mainly in our northern regions. These areas will soon become an important center of attraction for production. In addition, our Logistics OIZ and Informatics OIZ projects are also located in the northern part of the province. Integrating the ongoing railway project with the industrial zones both in the city center and in the northern region has now become a necessity. Integrating Karasu Port, whose capacity will significantly increase through expansion works, with the railway network will bring considerable economic dynamism to the port and the region. Our initiatives to establish a free zone in Karasu district are also ongoing. With investments in the port, Logistics OIZ, railway and free zone, Karasu will become a major logistics and trade hub.”

Railway Network
Altuğ also stated that Sakarya is one of Türkiye’s major industrial centers with its strong production capacity and provided the following information:
“In order for this production strength to become more competitive internationally, it is extremely important to support companies in terms of logistics and enable them to access lower-cost transportation opportunities. Integrating railway connections with industrial zones and large production facilities will be a significant step that will increase the competitiveness of our companies. Today, the competitiveness of industry is determined not only by production capacity but also by logistics strength. The most critical step to carry Sakarya’s production power forward in global competition is to connect industry directly with the railway network. In this context, integrating major industrial facilities operating in Sakarya into the railway network will provide significant gains.”
