A floating solar energy (photovoltaic) system will be installed at Reisler Okçular Lake through a collaboration between the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality and Sakarya University. The project, supported by TÜBİTAK, will both generate clean energy and help conserve water by reducing evaporation. It is also expected to serve as a model initiative for protecting, improving, and sustaining other water resources in the city.

Within the scope of the strategic cooperation established between the Department of Agricultural Services of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality and Sakarya University, a “footprint-based floating photovoltaic (FPV)” system will be installed on the surface of the reservoir. The primary objective is to significantly reduce evaporation and ensure more efficient use of water resources.
Water Conservation and Quality
The project will be one of the pioneering implementations of its kind in Türkiye. The amount of water saved in the lake and the system’s impact on water quality will be scientifically examined.

In addition, a long-term water management model will be developed using life cycle analysis and artificial intelligence-supported forecasting models. This model is expected to contribute to the more sustainable management of water resources in Sakarya.
The FPV system will not only protect water resources but also generate renewable energy.
The TÜBİTAK-supported project is being led by Associate Professor Dr. Ceyda Aksoy Tırmıkçı, a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering of Sakarya University.
