The targeted success was once again achieved in Sakarya in this year’s Blue Flag Awards program for beaches in Türkiye, coordinated by the Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV).

Through a comprehensive initiative launched on the coastlines of Karasu and Kocaali, beaches were redesigned with a more accessible, safe, environmentally friendly, and user-oriented concept. Following the completion of improvement works carried out by the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality along the northern coastline, three beaches on the Black Sea coast were awarded the Blue Flag distinction.

During the summer season, the Blue Flag will fly at Karasu Sahil Park Beach, 32 Evler Beach, and Kocaali Central Beach.

The Blue Flag symbolizes beaches and coastal areas that meet internationally recognized standards for cleanliness, safety, environmental sustainability, and quality management.

The award is granted under the coordination of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), while the process in Türkiye is managed by TÜRÇEV.

To qualify for the Blue Flag award, beaches and marinas are required to meet specific criteria in several key areas, including:

  • Water quality

  • Environmental management

  • Environmental education and information

  • Beach organization and safety

Beaches and marinas that successfully meet these standards are awarded the Blue Flag status for one year.
