67 Million Kilowatts of Energy Produced from Solid Waste in Sakarya

The 2023 data for the SEKAY (Sakarya Integrated Solid Waste Management) project by Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality has been announced.In a statement by the Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, it was emphasized that the municipality continues to produce electrical energy from waste with an environmentally conscious management approach. The statement included the following information:
"The Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality made the following statement: ‘The SEKAY project, built to minimize the negative impacts caused by consumer culture, protect the environment, and contribute to the national economy through energy produced from waste, converted 360,000 tons of solid waste into electrical energy in 2023. The facility, which produced 67 million kilowatts of electricity, generated enough energy to meet the needs of 90,000 people. Additionally, 8,000 tons of recyclable waste such as paper, glass, plastic, and metal were recovered and returned to the economy. Acting with a people-centered approach, and known as one of the country’s exemplary municipalities for its environmental projects, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality will continue to produce energy from waste while preserving the city's natural environment through zero waste management."
