Sakarya University Rises to 12th Place in Türkiye in UI GreenMetric 2025

Sakarya University has climbed to 12th place in Türkiye in the UI GreenMetric 2025 ranking, which evaluates environmental sustainability performance. Globally, the university ranked 157th among 1,745 institutions.

UI GreenMetric is based on a comprehensive assessment system that covers a wide range of criteria, from campus infrastructure to energy and climate change, waste management, water conservation, and transportation solutions.

Sakarya University secured an upper-tier position in the ranking thanks to its green campus initiatives, eco-friendly transportation policies, energy efficiency efforts, and projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions.

The on-campus transportation model developed in recent years, the deposit return systems, and the recycling infrastructure directly contributed to this performance. Progress made in waste management, energy

efficiency, and sustainable buildings demonstrated that the university’s environmental sustainability strategy has produced tangible results.

The sustainability-focused approach adopted in education, research, and community contribution also influenced the ranking. Sakarya University aims to strengthen its efforts to improve environmental performance and reduce its carbon footprint with larger-scale projects in the coming period.
